Research & Teaching
Contributing to child health through clinical research, digital development and medical education.
Alongside patient care, KidMed supports research and teaching shaped by everyday paediatric practice. Our work connects questions raised by families with digital health development, GP education and supervised learning for future doctors.
Research & development
BabyOn: following early development over time
Led by Dr Arman Babajanyan, BabyOn is a digital child health platform being developed through KidMed. It aims to bring together health information, growth and developmental observations, and preparation for healthcare appointments.
Adaptive Developmental Review
A structured, AI-assisted adaptive parent interview, covering the main areas of early development from birth to 36 months.
The working prototype adapts questions to the child’s age and the parent’s answers, including corrected-age considerations for children born prematurely. It is being developed to support developmental monitoring between routine health checks, rather than provide only a one-off checklist.
Our research examines question clarity, the reliability of parent-reported information, the safety of the interview process and how useful its summaries may be in clinical care.
Development and evaluation: the developmental review is a research prototype. Formal validation is still required; it is not a diagnostic tool or a replacement for clinical assessment.

Clinical Paediatric Conference
At the Fairmont Resort conference, Dr Arman Babajanyan presented developmental monitoring in the digital age, including a demonstration of BabyOn’s adaptive developmental review prototype.
The faculty also included KidMed clinicians A/Prof Deepak Gill and Dr Mimi Lu. The conference was delivered through the partnership between Nepean Blue Mountains PHN and the Local Health District, with more than 130 health professionals attending.

GP Refresh
The published GP Refresh 2026 speaker faculty included four KidMed paediatricians: Dr Arman Babajanyan, Dr Kate Bryan, Dr Joseph Elkadi and Dr Sumanth Nagabushan.
These contributions sit alongside KidMed’s local GP workshops and case-based teaching, connecting specialist paediatric knowledge with the questions encountered in general practice.
Teaching in regional practice
By March 2026, the Lithgow outreach service had hosted 26 advanced paediatric trainees on supervised six-month Specialist Training Program placements. Medical students also attend the clinic at The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Lithgow Clinical School, learning about community paediatrics, Aboriginal child health and continuity of care.
The service has also supported local GP development: Dr Kieran Webb-Sawyer completed 12 months of accredited special-skills training in paediatrics through KidMed.
Read about the outreach service and its teaching history. RDN’s account of the training programme provides an external record of this work.
Research-active clinicians
KidMed’s team includes A/Prof Deepak Gill, who has published more than 95 research papers in paediatric neurology, and Dr Sumanth Nagabushan, a paediatrician and paediatric oncologist whose peer-reviewed work includes childhood cancer research and precision medicine.
These selected publications reflect our clinicians’ wider hospital, university and international research collaborations, alongside their clinical work at KidMed.
